Elfsong 02:25
I thought it over yesterday as I was walking home. I came upon an empty place, between the blood and bone, And I heard voices sing. My heart beat like hooves under the moonlight. It could’ve been the weather, or the placement of the sun. But, a brother or a sister, now I could be anyone. And, I was untitled, and bare, unbroken. And, there was a fear, so familiar, But I watched it go. I was raised next to the water. Where it ran from, I never could tell. I feel the wind upon my shoulder. It seems to think that I will be well.

Kitchen Beat 03:30
Love is the kitchen in the morning light. Gather you ‘round, in disheveled glory. Jason in black and Anna in white, A metaphor hangs, but it’s much too early. Night came, cool, and we came alive, Killing our cares with dance and emotion. Love was a place where the chaos thrived. Now, you make the eggs, and I’ll make a potion. Sun through the prism on the windowsill, Color is spread where color was needed. Love is a current when all is still, Quiet are we, the ones that feed it. And, all the while, the roots grow strong. Out of this place, now, a song has come, Into your own to keep the chain growing. Love is a gift from many to one, Gather it ‘round to keep it from slowing Soon, we will leave for the daily test, Humming this tune on a wheel that’s turning. One goes east, and one will go west; One stays home to keep the fire burning. And, all the while, the roots grow strong.

Fey 04:03
And, if I touch you there Will I become undone In the expecting arms Of many or of one Who want to know if I’m enough of my kind? And, if I touch you wrong, Then could I touch again? Too much, or not enough, In patience or in pain, While voices whisper, “Ain’t it just like his kind?” My eyes are trained to swallow whole. My heart is open, and it doesn’t beat like that. But, in the vessels, there is rolling thunder. It’s not for me, or for my soul. It’s for some ledger that I keep in the back. Forget my softness; I am going under. What people talk about when people talk about love, Like it is something that is out of the question; Do you want to fuck, or fight? Because, under flashing lights, it’s hard for me to tell. I don’t remember signing up for this, I only came for cheap wine and deep conversation. But, now you lick your lips, and you are coming over… I’m empty, And fey. But, I want you to stay.

The Stride 03:58
Some fortune awaits me At the far side of the bed. This place is old, and beauty and treachery meet In a potent and harrowing blend. Best keep in step, For strangers are met with disdain, or, at best Suspicion But, still, all the same; I’ll walk through the shadow with headphones on. My lashes are bleeding, my stride is a song. And, it swells. And, it lulls. It’s my own. I live in the foreground. It’s all eyes on me, because they know I’m just a crack in the hull. There is a power at work That cares nothing for you, or your sense of self-worth. But, it picks all your outfits, It knows all your fears, And the things that you hide them behind. But, me and mine have fucked off through a hole in the wall. To your country and god, we owe nothing at all. We’ll frolic down Main with a passion and ease, For a new song is rising; it sits on the breeze. Hear it swell Hear it lull It’s our own. I live in the foreground. It’s all eyes on me, because they know I’m just a crack in the hull. And, If there’s a crack in the hull, Then comes the flood.

1812 04:30
I never knew the girl who used to blast 1812. But, I’d hear Tchaikovsky in the night; I’d hear the final swell. She had shit to write, and the bed was tight (a twin was all we had), But there was adderall, and cannonfire, and wells within her head. She was moving on, and didn’t think that I could tell. Some piece of me is in the scent of her shampoo on the train. Sometimes it comes up unannounced, and I am there again. And, I think that it’s strange that I have come this far. I knew you once, at least I thought I had you figured out. I’d sing your name, but I don’t think it was about you now. What once was love is now a glance at a passerby, But I remember the rebellion of your leg against mine, And, I think that it’s strange that I have come this far. It feels like forever, but it all comes to a sigh someday, And, then you find yourself fighting tears in this cafe, And I think that it’s strange that I have come this far.

Wash Out 04:14
My eyes roll back, and the clouds roll in. My eyes roll back, and the clouds roll in. The cup is full, and it spills again. My eyes roll back, and the clouds roll in. I arch my back as the fear sets in. I arch my back as the fear sets in. The past is gone, but it lives within. I arch my back as the fear sets in. I reach out in love, but no love comes in. I reach out in love, but no love comes in. Within, or without, where the trouble is? I reach out in love, but no love comes in. I’ve got some friends, and they don’t mean shit. I’ve got some friends, and they don’t mean shit. I cry; deep down, that’s not the truth of it. But, I’ve got some friends, and they don’t mean shit. I’m going under to cull my sins. The cup is full, and it spills again. The past is gone, but it lives within. I’m going under, I’m going… Let it be the last time. I know much better now, but, Somehow, It gets deeper with age, And, I’ve found It grows and changes with me But, let it be the last time. I know much better now. Still, it washes over me, And it won’t wash out.

Flood 03:14
Shifting my weight so that I can sit straighter; Intention is drawn to my spine. Out of my core, through my back and my shoulders, It climbs it’s way up, like a vine Clinging to you. Thinking of you. Hoping for you. Now, in the house, there are patterns familiar, And outside the soil is dry. How shall I come to the places I’m needed With no pot to carry me by? Speaking of you, Counting on you. Flood into you.

Grace 02:19
I’m feeling younger than I ever felt back then. You would be proud. I write this knowing that it’s owed, in part, To you, somehow. You, in your spring, unkempt, Laughter piercing the wind, I will not soon forget. But, there was a chill upon me, That I didn’t know how to talk about, And I loved you in ways I didn’t understand yet. Not quite as a lover, or a friend. Akin to a sister. As your light was getting clearer, My own was wearing thin. And, at the mirror, I would look for something like you.

Niamh 05:48
I want to sing the heart of everyone, But I’ll keep this one for me. I am adrift, with each and every one Of the things I’ll never be. All of the houses peeking through the treeline, They are patient, and alive. I let my eyes drift to receive them, And look forward as I drive. Let go My hold Before it gets to heavy The tide Is slow But I’ll be there soon. I am afraid of you, and everything you mean to me, And I’m proudest when I’m alone. I want to sit up in a tree, and fade from memory, And I’ll smile, and watch you grow. But, don’t fret. You know You’ve got me when you need me. As rain, As snow, I’ll be there soon. Don’t ask me how, You’ll never know. I’ve shown you how, You haven’t seen it. Don’t ask me why I am. You see me now, You won’t tomorrow. I’m in and out Of making sense. You’ll never know My name. But, listen close, now. Listen closer. You might hear it as a whisper.
